JACOB
Jacob is a kid who just wants to have fun with a forever family, perhaps by going fishing, swimming or playing games together. Perhaps that togetherness might come by watching his favorite movies such as “Ice Age: Continental Drift,” “Alvin & the Chipmunks” and “The Incredible Hulk.” Or, maybe his forever family will huddle together to watch Jacob playing football one day, which he dreams of doing for his favorite team. “I like the Detroit Lions,” says Jacob while admitting, like a lot of disheartened Lions fans, “I don’t know why because sometimes they lose too much.” Jacob’s other interests include listening to music and drawing animals. His favorite animal is a snow owl. At school, Jacob’s favorite subjects are science and math, and he has done quite well recently by earning “A’s” in four classes. If Jacob could visit anywhere on Earth, he would like to travel to California, New York to see the Statue of Liberty and Florida to visit Disney World. As for a family, Jacob says he wants “a lovable, caring mother, father, and a brother and a sister.” That’s the kind of togetherness he craves.
Jacob likes people and wants to establish relationships but can have difficulty relating to his peers. He has a very active imagination and personality, which make him a very unique young man. Jacob is working with assistance to manage his emotions and express himself through appropriate outlets. He benefits from additional help in school to help him reach his fullest potential. Since Jacob struggles with his self-esteem, he could use help coping with his feelings, especially hopelessness and concerns about his future.
Jacob says, “I would like to have a family that will spend time together, go fishing and will have a big brother.” Jacob would benefit from an adoptive family who has experience parenting children with emotional and developmental needs. The family will have be patient, act as good mentors to him and provide a friendly and loving home. Jacob would do best in a calm and soothing environment with a family who has a relaxed demeanor. It will be important for a family to be strong advocates so that Jacob gets the services he needs to thrive in school, at home and in the community. Jacob has a younger brother and sister who are very important to him, and an adoptive family must be supportive of him keeping in close contact with them.
