FRED
Fredrick, who likes to be called Fred, is an outgoing and fun-loving kid with a competitive edge who loves to challenge his friends to a soccer game or other activity. Fred enjoys playing basketball and football and playing video games. When he’s not playing, Fred stretches out by doing yoga with others. He also likes to read about history and reports that his favorite subjects in school are math and gym. With his forever family, Fred wants to do the kinds of outdoor activities that he loves such as biking, hiking and four-wheeling. Fred also has stated a desire to attend church.
Fred uses drawing, reading, deep breathing and yoga as coping skills to manage his feelings. Fred does better when people around him take time to listen, and he does well with consistency and structure in his daily routine.
Fred would do best with two parents, but a single-female parent would be appropriate if she had a strong support network. Fred should be the youngest or only child in the home since he benefits from one-on-one attention; he has stated a preference for pets, especially cats. His adoptive family must be strong advocates for the services that would enhance Fred’s success at home, in school and in the community. Due to Fred’s past disappointments, he needs a family who will make a commitment to him and who will be patient as he develops trust and transitions into his new adoptive family. “Mostly,” says his worker, “he wants a family who will respect him, love him and be there for him when he needs it most no matter what.” It will be important that a family is open to maintain contact with Fred’s two sisters.
