Shenella

SHENELLA

On her list of wishes, Shenella has a few that could melt your heart. For instance, she dreams of “giving children a life I didn’t have.” She longs for the opportunity to attend college, and wants a chance “to do better.” Even as she looks to the future, Shenella stays planted in the present and takes pride in where she is at in life. “I’ve come a long way,” she said. This wise-beyond-her-age young lady loves to engage with others and can be entertaining. “She is funny, quick-witted, and likes to joke around,” her worker said. Shenella also is a smart girl with a good memory. She’s got talent, too. “She is creative and enjoys reading, coloring, and drawing,” her worker explained. Her favorite food is chicken sandwiches and mac ’n cheese. Her favorite color is light pink and her favorite animals are dogs, specifically Dobermans. “They are kind and sweet,” Shenella said. When she gets older, Shenella wants to become a foster parent so “I can care for children of all ages.” With her future forever family, Shenella looks forward to spending time together, watching movies and talking about any problems family members may have.

Shenella has experienced trauma and will need patience as she works on coping skills to manage her behavior and emotions. She receives services to help her function at her best. At school, Shenella struggles sometimes. However, her worker says that Shenella “can do well in the classroom.”

Shenella would do best with two parents, but a single parent with a very strong support network could be considered. Her new parent or parents should be experienced and have knowledge of the impact of trauma on a child. Shenella also would do best as the youngest or only child in the home. Shenella’s new forever family will need to be patient and supportive as she works through her past and transitions into her new home.
