Shilo enjoys life, but she’d like a chance to share it with a forever family. As her photo suggests, Shilo is an active girl who likes the outdoors, especially swimming and playing at the park or beach. Shilo’s other favorite activities include getting ice cream (and why not?) and trying new things (perhaps pistachio). If Shilo could go anywhere in the world, she wants to go to Disney World to get toys and see the park and the animals. However, her favorite animal isn’t a mouse, not even Mickey. Nope. It’s a dog, and she especially loves puppies. When asked what she is most proud of, she replied, “I am proud of my grades; I get A’s and B’s!” If Shilo had three wishes, she says, “I would like to be 16 years old, to have even more friends and to have a nice family.” When she grows up, Shilo would like to be a nurse. Most importantly, Shilo would like families to know, “I am funny, I like to laugh, and I am nice!”
Shilo has been working very hard to manage her emotions regarding her difficult past. She is learning how to develop positive social skills and improve her ability to express her frustrations through appropriate outlets. To improve her self-image, Shilo would benefit from encouragement and guidance. She responds very well to a consistent schedule with a highly structured living environment and thrives with unconditional love and support.
The ideal adoptive family for Shilo would consist of a single female parent or two parents with experience and patience. The family will need to understand that Shilo will require some time to transition into her new home. It would be beneficial to Shilo if she were the only or youngest child in the home with older or adult children. The family must be able to continue Shilo’s services and be able to seek out any in additional services that would benefit her development and well-being. The family must be staunch advocates for Shilo at home, in the community and at school to make sure that all of her needs are being met. It is important to Shilo that she is able to maintain contact with her siblings, who are in another adoptive placement, as she has strong bonds with them. Shilo has said that she would prefer a two-parent home to help her when she is having a tough day.
