Kwandell might see his name in lights one day, perhaps on a marquee on Broadway or even a local musical theater. After all, Kwandell has the outgoing personality of a celebrity. He also loves singing and dancing. One “marquee” he wants his name on is with a forever family so he can share in the special times together. “He is always eager to participate in family activities such as swimming and bike riding,” says his worker, who describes Kwandell as happy, energetic and very friendly. His foster parent calls Kwandell a joy to have in her home. “He is helpful and generous and has so much love to give,” the foster parent says. “He is kind and respectful. He is honest and playful.”

Kwandell has experienced loss and trauma in his young life, and understandably struggles with his feelings at times. However, he receives services to help him focus on the coping skills that will help him manage his emotions. Like a lot of kids his age, Kwandell understands what’s being asked of him, but he benefits from help to focus on the task at hand. At school, Kwandell excels. “He loves school, his teachers and his classmates,” says Kwandell’s worker. Kwandell says math is his favorite subject.

Kwandell would do well with a single female parent, two female parents or a mom and dad in a forever family in which he’s the youngest child. His new parent or parents would benefit from having knowledge of or experience with the impact of trauma on a child. His family must be strong advocates for the services that will benefit Kwandell. Finally, the family should be open to letting Kwandell maintain the relationships that are important to him.
